It was in London in the year 1981 that Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood invented a new sound, called African Psychedelic Dub. Bonjo, a native from Jamaica, and Sherwood started African Head Charge as a studio recording project, which they later gained wide prominence. After Bonjo left England in 1995 for Ghana to “fulfill the dream of every Rastaman to return to Africa” the group became inactive but when Bonjo visited England in 2003 they started to work on a new album (Vision of a Psychedelic Africa) and because of problems that E.M.I had at that time the album release was delayed until 2010. In 2011, their 30 years of work and the production of 12 LPS/EPs culminated in the release of ‘Voodoo of the Godsent‘. It is high time to pay due respect to the innovative sound of African Head Charge.
Their LP ‘Songs of Praise‘ from 1991 is seen as one of their masterpieces. The album features religious chants from different African regions added with African Dub sounds.
