Jusi I Love – Conscientização is a dedication to wonderful songs, artists and hymns from a beautiful and rich continent. After Jusi I Love paused in April 2015, it was revived in March 2020. Since its restart, it curates politically and socially conscious music that shapes societies and politics in African countries. The blog makes use of the term Cons-ci-en-ti-za-ção, popularized by Brazilian educator/ activist/ theorist Paulo Freire in its work ‘The Pedagogy of the Oppressed‘. Conscientização, often translated as ‘critical consciousness’ is regarded as the capacity of a person to realize social and political contradictions and take actively action to change oppressive situations.
