Rope Documentary (Bo, Sierra Leone) – Nneka

Watch this nice documentary about Nneka‘s inspiring effort to empower women in the ROPE project in Bo, Sierra Leone. Besides her well-known popular activism against the destructive oil-industry in the Niger Delta, this effort here is less known. In the video you can see how much she is emotionally attached to this program and the fate of the women who are empowered through it. I think in order to understand Nneka’s music it is curcial to acknowledge the social messages behind her songs, messages that seek social and political change from the grassroots … in this case for women in Sierra Leone. Truly inspiring!
