A beautiful voice. Bongeziwe Mabandla‘s music is a fantastic mixture of traditional Xhosa music, folk, soul and hip hop. He calls it Afro Folk Tronik. He has so far not been very much in the limelight but he definitely has the potential to touch a lot of people with his music. The native of Tsolo (a small town in the Eastern Cape) names artists like Simphiwe Dana, Oliver Mtukudzi and Lauryn Hill as major influences to his music. He has released the EP “Umlilo” in 2008 and you can listen to more of his songs on his Myspace page. It’s hard not to be touched by his sound.
Here are three videos: The great song “Phupha Lam” (Feat. Zulu Boy), an acoustic performance of “We Sizathu” (in which he also tells us more about his background as a music artist) and a Live performance of “Gunuza” on SABC 2 in 2009.
